FFdshow is a DirectShow filter to decompress DivX and Xvid format videos.

The most common formats for video on the Internet are now DivX and XviD. Most videos you download are going to be in these formats, especially movies (shorter ones like those on YouTube are in Flash). But what happens if you lack the right codec to play them? The most important program to help you is this FFdshow. as you may or may not know already, FFdshow is a DirectShow decoding filter to decompress DivX and XviD format videos. It is based on the original Xvid DirectShow, which is the implementation of the MPEG decoder in a GPL version.

FFdshow is mainly used for decoding the MPEG-4 ASP format (i.e. encoded with DivX or XviD) and H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video formats. However it supports numerous other video and audio formats as well. The program doesn't include its own media player, but can work with compatible DirectShow or VFW media players such as Media Player Classic, Winamp, and Windows Media Player.

FFdshow supports all versions of DivX and XviD, and also has various configuration options to display subtitles, take screenshots, manipulate the audio, increase the resolution, etc.
